There is no direct evidence that Sims attended the expulsion procedure. However, he was an honorary member of the society (see “…honorary member of that city’s obstetrical society…,” above), and he was in London at the time. Furthermore, the reviews of Clinical Notes on Uterine Surgery certainly would have made him concerned about what might happen to doctors who wound up on the wrong side of opinion about the propriety of medicine.
