“…a book of her own…”

Elizabeth Lee’s book is titled The Last Hope: Lies, Truths and Legends of John Wilkes Booth's 34-Hour Escape through King George County, Virginia. Lee tracks Booth’s escape from Washington D.C. after murdering Abraham Lincoln. She believes that Lee passed right by the plantation where Anarcha lived in 1865. Booth’s route of escape has been hotly debated, and Lee makes a compelling case—nevertheless, for the sake of expediency, I have not included Booth as part of Anarcha’s story.

“There was just one entry…”

The cemetery book was a hand-printed volume.
