From an unpublished and untitled profile of Thomas Grimball Prioleau, held at the Waring Historical Library in Charleston, South Carolina, p. 1.
“…one of his professors…”
Information about Prioleau, and the nitrous oxide experiments he was part of, are very hard to find. This comes from another unpublished profile of Prioleau, held at the Waring Historical Library in Charleston, South Carolina.
“…a batch of gas…”
Details on the nitrous oxide experiments in Philadelphia at this time are very difficult to find. This book reprints material from an article in the Medical Repository, which is cited poorly. I’m uncertain who the professor was, though the names of the students, including Prioleau and his quote, appear in a variety of sources.
